    TruckThat – December 2017

Truck That December 2017 is our third and final episode for the year and Rod discusses options that people have if they truly believe that they have been wrongly fined for an infringement. This comes off the back of our friend and colleague, celebrity truckie Yogi who appeared in our last episode and was fined for a six-minute infringement on his work diary. Rod covers the request for review option available to all, however, we always advocate that if you do the crime then you must pay the fine but we certainly need a little more flexibility.

We also cover the numbers you need to know for reporting hazards on the road. Many people have often wondered how they go about reporting dangerous hazards on the road and Rod covers the numbers for NSW, 13 17 00, QLD, 13 19 40 and VIC, 13 11 70 and of course what to do when you get through. Most importantly, we always advocate for people to be polite and ensure that they represent our industry and thus all of us associated with it in a positive way.

Rod also covers “Roadhouse Lawyers” and the need to be careful with people’s opinions and ensure accuracy of information is getting to people. Especially when you come to us to advocate on a matter, we are certainly going to ask for evidence and will never just go off hearsay. Hearsay only makes people look paranoid and frankly just plain silly.

Rod also covers parking bays and the somewhat delicate issue of “pee bottles”. Drive safe, go and check out some of our other videos like the one Sarah did on the signs of Fatigue. So from Rod, Management and Crew of TruckThat and Whiteline Television we would also like to convey our best wishes for the holiday season fast approaching, we wish you a very merry Christmas and an awesome 2018.

    TruckThat – November 2017

Truck That November 2017 is the second episode of a new monthly programme presented by legendary industry advocate Rod Hannifey and produced by us at Whiteline television.

We shot this episode at the Maitland showgrounds on the 29th October during the Newcastle Road Transport Awareness Day and Convoy. This event is held each year and continues to go from strength to strength. Traditionally they raise money for the Westpac rescue helicopter, but this year sees them also provide donations for other charities.

Rod gets the perfect opportunity to speak with Tim Hansen from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator about the release of the latest round of funding for heavy vehicle road safety projects, he also chats about the new regime coming to play with registration labels and number plates plus, the latest on ‘chain of responsibility’ legislation.

Rod also gets to provide an update as to where the ‘green reflector’ informal parking bay project is currently up to from the funding that he received for that project in the last round of grants.

We also get to have a chat with Glenn ‘YOGI’ Kendall who is from ‘Outback Truckers’ fame and who is also a great advocate for our industry. Yogi discusses his three most important things that could be changed to make our industry better.

Then we close off the show talking to Chris Smith editor at Australian Custom Truck magazine and what he has been doing at the show. Rod gets a special invitation to another truck show in Victoria next year from Chris.

Rod Hannifey has spent most of his truck driving career as a road safety evangelist and advocate for safety within the Australian road transport industry. He is an accomplished and respected columnist and has been an adviser to Industry and government on many projects. He also pilots the distinctive Truckright Industry Vehicle which is a K200 Kenworth in B’Double configuration.

    Truck That October 2017

TruckThat October 17 is the first episode of a new programme currently being developed by us at Whiteline television.

The programme’s aim is to disseminate current and important industry-based news events and current affair’s stories that we feel are important for you to know about. Many drivers we speak with say they do not read the trucking press, as when they get out of the truck, they don’t want to have anything to do with trucks. We no longer have any real trucking radio shows, meanwhile in the states they have a 24 hour a day satellite network, but you need a suitable set and have to pay. So how do we get two important things done? One is to get news and issues out to drivers and the other, is once they are aware, to give them the chance to respond. TruckThat, aims to do just that.

  • Mary Kovacivic

    Mary Kovacivic

In June 2016 we arranged to speak with Mary Kovacevic from the Drive to Survive driving academy. Drive to Survive offers a range of heavy vehicle training packages for a variety of rigid, articulated and combination vehicles. Mary comes from an extensive road transport background as a driver and an owner driver. The bulk of Mary’s work has been in tippers but has done some interstate and country work as well.

One of the very unique facts about this driving school located in Queanbeyan NSW is that you learn to drive in a Kenworth with an 18 speed road ranger transmission. In this Whiteline short which is only a small part of our interview with Mary, AJ asks the question, why does she have Kenworth Trucks and not some others.

  • K.S Easter – Setting the standard

K.S Easter – Setting the standard

In setting the standard 2016 we travel to Wacol near Brisbane to catch up with Ken Easter and have a closer look at his family-run company, K.S. Easter Haulage, which celebrated its 40th year in business in 2016.  It quickly becomes apparent during our visit just why the title of setting the standard is so appropriate for this company especially with their attitude towards compliance. Their commitment to Truck Safe and the strict compliance regime surrounding this set of strict criteria is somewhat second to none.

K.S. Easter Haulage is by far one of the most progressive and technologically advanced companies we’ve seen in a long time Shane Lansdown, one of our guest hosts, has a look at what has made Ken such a success in the industry and has a chat with two of Ken’s sons as to what they see as challenges for our industry both now and into the future. Shane discusses with Ken the reasons he chooses the immaculate equipment he does and also his ongoing commitment to customer service. Initially starting his company in Newcastle, Ken discovered that it would be more pertinent to move his business to Brisbane and operate from there due to the ease of getting trucks serviced and cleaned etc. in the middle of the week and on weekends.

Easters’ bread and butter operations are primarily involved with the “time-sensitive” sector on the eastern seaboard of Australia with the Sydney to Brisbane run arguably being one of the most challenging routes for a single driver in this climate of regulation, however, their footprint into other areas and freight routes expands where needed. K.S. Easter Haulage is by far one of the most progressive and technologically advanced companies we’ve seen in a long time and above all else, some of the damn nicest people you will find in our industry today.

    The Transhelp Foundation

This is a video profile AJ Birchall conducted with the Transhelp Foundation, a national charity working with the transport industry.  We speak with Dianne Carroll OAM, who is the founder and CEO of this amazing charity and ask why she set up such an organisation.  We ask about the type of people who volunteer with Transhelp and speak with one of their nurses about what is involved with their mobile health units.

These awesome people (Volunteers) not only assist Australian road transport families following the tragedy but as AJ finds out, work tirelessly all year round to try and help drivers monitor their physical and mental health.

    Crawlin’ the Hume 2016

We caught up with the guys from Crawlin’ the Hume at Winton Raceway in Victoria. These people and their restored trucks meet bi-annually to show off their trucks and drive on the old Hume highway from Campbellfield near Melbourne to Albury on the NSW/Vic border.

Many of the characters are as colourful as their trucks
